ALMTAL
The Almtal is located at the eastern beginning of the Salzkammergut and is especially popular with families. Here you can expect beautiful landscapes, hospitable locals and lots of snow action. The family ski area Kasberg offers a total of 21 kilometers of slopes, including two magic carpets for the little ski bunnies. In addition, the Almtal is a very popular retreat for those who want to immerse themselves in nature for a change and relax. The area is considered the first "Waldness" destination in Europe - this is a special recreation program where you spend most of your time in the forest. The package includes, among other things, a lantern hike, a snowshoe hike, and guided forest walks.
BAD ISCHL
Bad Ischl is the heart of the Salzkammergut and cultivates an image as a sports town. From fishing to golf, mountain biking and tennis, you can practice many sports here all year round. Only 8 kilometers from the center you will also find the cross-country skiing paradise Rettenbachalm, which offers excellently prepared classic and skating trails. However, Bad Ischl is not only something for active vacationers - those seeking peace and quiet will also get their money's worth in the spa town. In the Eurotherme Bad Ischl you can spend a relaxing wellness vacation and let yourself be pampered. A special highlight at the spa is the "Lazy River", Austria's only outdoor river landscape.
TRAUNSEE
With a depth of 191 meters, Lake Traunsee is the deepest lake in Austria and one of the most popular vacation regions in the Salzkammergut. Especially in summer, many locals and tourists flock here to relax surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop. In addition, the area around Lake Traunsee is considered an absolute hiker's paradise. The hilly landscape offers numerous hiking trails and routes of various degrees of difficulty, which are suitable for beginners as well as for professionals. Near Lake Traunsee, you will also find the small Feuerkogel ski area, which offers 15 kilometers of slopes and cozy mountain inns.
ATTERGAU
The Attergau is an area northwest of Lake Attersee in Upper Austria and consists of the small communities of St. Georgen, Straß, Weißenkirchen and Berg. The region offers a tranquil atmosphere and attracts with an original charm. Especially hikers get their money's worth here, because the beautiful landscape is perfect for long walks. But golfing, mountain biking and cycling are also very well possible here. In addition to the sporting offer, the Attergau region also offers great wellness opportunities. In the Crystal Salt World you can try a healing salt cure or treat yourself to a special salt massage.
DACHSTEIN SALZKAMMERGUT
The Dachstein region is probably the ski paradise in the Salzkammergut. Awaiting you here are a total of 119 kilometers of slopes in various degrees of difficulty and 21 lifts. In addition to the normal slopes, there are also plenty of fun slopes where things really get going. In addition, the region is considered very family-friendly, at each entry point there is a Kinderland, where the little ones can practice skiing. Children's clubs and ski kindergartens are also available. Another highlight are the snow and fun parks, which offer a lot of action and variety. But also skiing muffle can spend a great time at the Dachstein. There are other sporting opportunities such as tobogganing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing - everyone gets their money's worth here.
WOLFGANGSEE
Lake Wolfgang is not only a vacation paradise in summer - also in winter you can experience a lot here. While cross-country skiers can let off steam on the Postalm, skiers have the option of taking the cable car up to the 12er Horn. The small panoramic mountain is a real insider tip and offers a 5-kilometer-long downhill run to the valley station of the cable car. In addition, the ski area Dachstein West can be reached by ski bus in just one hour. Around the lake there are also several wellness hotels that promise a relaxing stay. Especially popular is the Wellness Alm at the Leopoldhof as well as the Vitalhotel Wolfgangsee.
ATTERSEE
Lake Attersee is known for its unusually clear water and is considered an absolute diver's paradise. But a trip to the turquoise blue lake is not only worthwhile for divers, because the region has much more to offer. Discover charming communities like Nussdorf, Unterach and Steinbach, which inspire with a romantic atmosphere and invite you to long walks. The unique atmosphere at Lake Attersee was also appreciated by Gustav Klimt, who regularly spent his summers here between 1900 and 1916. In the Gustav Klimt Center you can learn about the life and work of the artist. Around the Attersee you will also find the smaller ski resorts Kronberg, Wachtberg and Hochlecken, which are particularly suitable for a family vacation.
FUSCHLSEE
The Fuschlsee region is considered an absolute cross-country skiing paradise and attracts numerous snow bunnies every year, who can improve their skills on over 90 kilometers of trails. In the small community of Faistenau there is also a snow tubing track, which is great fun for young and old alike. For the romantics among you, a horse-drawn sleigh ride through Faistenau is also recommended, where you can get to know the region in a very leisurely way. In addition to Faistenau, the communities of Fuschl am See and Hintersee are also worth a visit.
AUSSEERLAND SALZKAMMERGUT
The Ausseerland in the Salzkammergut is the winter wonderland par excellence - here you can devote yourself entirely to skiing and go on romantic snow hikes. The Tauplitz ski area is famous for its snow reliability and offers perfectly groomed slopes of varying degrees of difficulty. In total, the region consists of the six villages Altaussee, Bad Aussee, Bad Mitterndorf, Grundlsee, Pichl-Kainisch and Tauplitz. Each of the individual regions convince with a fantastic landscape and many sports opportunities such as cycling, hiking and skiing. The Ausseerland is therefore optimal for all active vacationers.
MONDSEE-IRRSEE
Mondsee and Irrsee are combined as Mondseeland and belong to the most beautiful destinations in the Salzkammergut. Yet the two lakes could not be more different. While the Mondsee is considered a sporty and active bathing lake, the Irrsee is under nature protection and serves as a perfect oasis of peace. So you can decide for yourself what you prefer - a little action or relaxation. In the cold months, the region is very suitable for cross-country skiing, winter hiking and tobogganing. By the way, Mondseeland is located very close to Salzburg, so a trip to the city of Mozart is also a good idea.
